I just bought a Scrapyard Dogfather on the exchange and I need a leather sheath for it. Looking for something simple, functional, with good retention, and in a scout carry setup (I've also seen sheaths with an X on the back that look like they could be used scout-style? Anyone know what I mean?). No pouches, firesteel, sharpener, etc. necessary and I'd like to spend less than $100.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

The X back leather straps are a common feature on a lot of sheaths. Make sure, if you want to use it scout style, to specifically mention that to the maker. Some of those sheaths with X straps, the X straps are too far down on the sheath to carry scout style. They are for attaching straps and pouches. As long the second X strap is high up enough, there should not be too much problem carrying like that (assuming you are not to skinny narrow in the body that the knife sticks out both sides.

For a basic sheath,

Chuddy Bear (he makes very heavy duty leather, with X straps), Mikey Moto (if he is taking orders). Leather Man, Tree Stump leather, Armoral leather (Dwayne Puckett), Rowe's Leather, Mountain Mike's (Mike Bartlow). S Branson on here, Also, Paul Long makes some very decorative, but any one that can turn out such beauties won't have a hard time doing a simple one.
One leather maker I don't see mentioned much on here is Sunrise River custom sheaths. Has some real nice looking sheaths (never held one).

Ask first, because if you pick, some of these guys won't even need you to send the knife in. Many will have the pattern.

I have not owned any of these custom makers leather (but have held and examined some of them).

There are also excellent kydex benders if you have any interest. Buy Brown, Mashed Cat, Sember Pratus, On scene tactical sheaths. Alzweke (sp?) is a maker on here who lists his on the Busse for sale forum (excellent as far as the one I did own. Great fit and finish, and I would not hesitate buying one).

Also there are many others as well. I have owned Buy Brown (love them), and Mashed Cat (also great sheaths).

I am sure others will jump in and list a double handful more.

Also, go to the Busse sub forum on here, and at the top is a sticky list of sheath makers for Busse (and busse kin like Scrapyard and Swamprat)

Thanks for the in-depth response.
Looks like I've got some calls to make!

Probably the quickest way to save your self some time is to make a post on the Busse subforum.

Ask which leather benders have a pattern for the Dogfather and ask for pics. Then just pick the one you like.

That said, Chuddy Bear really makes a Gnarly thick heavy duty leather sheath, with X straps being one of his specialties (he makes a lot of piggy back sheaths with removable strap, etc).
