Buck made leather washer handled 102's and 105's for LL Bean. I do not see them currently in the online catalog.
There was also a leather handled 102 LE in 2011 with a mirror polished blade and micarta spacers in the leather. I believe there were several different 119's and a skinner was done for Cabela's a few years back. Just watch the Bay, they all pop up there once in awhile.
I have the 102 Woodsman and it's really nice, but it does come with "L.L. Bean" etched along the blade. Besides the engraving, it's a fine looking knife and probably my favorite besides the Bass Pro Shops bone handled version.
That is one sweet looking knife for sure. I'd like to have the pathfinder with leather handles, only because I like that 5" blade. They all look pretty nice though and they appeal to me more so than any other material I've seen used.
They do have a rich, warm look and feel. Plus, they have a good grip and not cold in the hand. They'll last 60 years with just a little Neats foot oil every other year. Add some colored spacers and this gives it more bling. DM
DeSoto, Thank you. Correct, it began as a 103. I liked Buck's early predecessor the 110 Skinner. Hoyt's version of a Skinner. It was done with a stacked leather handle and close to this shape blade. I thought I had that knife saved some where. For now this will have to do, until I find it. These are HK's knives; it's the 2nd model from the right. These are before Buck gave them model numbers. DM
I looked and only found it in antler and lignum vitae handles, other than the one above. Of the photos I had saved. Still, my rendition of that knife. I gave it a little longer handle with a lanyard hole and stainless pommel. Plus, most know my off spring are in the military. DM
