Anybody make a good leather slip cover sheath for a pipe tomahawk? I'd like to have on of the nice open-top balderic-style sheaths, but I think my wallet will only allow for a slip sheath right now.
Also, I want to make a training tomahawk. I got this idea from reading Dwight McLemore's book The Fighting Tomahawk . He took a regular pipe hawk (I may use some other type), smoothed all the edges (including the blade), then covered the whole head (except the eye, obviously) in thick leather (with an extra layer on the striking surface). He made it slip-sheath style so it could just go over his current hawk, but I'd like to make one strictly dedicated for this purpose. I would be willing to buy a cheaply made (read: cast iron) head with an easily replaceable handle, and send it to someone if they'd be willing to do the job for me. I forget how thick the leather was he said he used, but I can find out. Any takers?
