I just bought a katana today that has a "Shoestring" material type Ito. I would like to have it replaced by a leather ito. Does anyone know what it should cost to have it done?

$195.00 plus shipping from Fred Lohman Co, material supplied.

Best Regards,

thanks for that. Is that a typical price for the service?

i don't see many places online who will do it, so i don't have price comparisons to look at

You can search 'tsuka maki' and see, but you're not liable to catch a huge break, especially with leather... Lohman has the best and cheapest, but that's not saying much. Still, the work first class. David McDonald used to do his wraps, and still does them on his own... Excellent service there!

Fred is about the only place I know of... luckily he seems to be first-class to deal with. I saw one of my sword blades wrapped by Eric Elson (a promotional collaboration) in leather from Fred and it was gorgeous.
