So a while back (maybe 8 months) I made a leather micarta handle scale for my tenacious.

(Yes I know micarta is a brand name, and yes I know it’s much more complicated than slapping fabric and epoxy together, but that’s not what I’m here to discuss.)

So basically I cut up my old leather work gloves and soaked and layered the pieces with 2 part epoxy, clamped it, and used the slab to make a handle scale. I’ve been using the knife since as a work knife, and I’ve had no problems so far. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with anything like this, and what anyone’s thoughts are on it. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have about the it as well.

Awseome idea, modern epoxy has come a long way, looks great too!.
Stacked leather handles are always prone to moisture and swelling, maybe test some scrap pieces!?

With soaking the glove pieces in epoxy, these leather handles won't swell nearly as much! It's a bit different than a stacked leather handle, which are often just compressed and not even glued together.

That could be a cool thing to try. You could probably get some cool patterns if you used different colors of leather or fabric and put some pebbles under it in the mold to get layering throughout.

Chop up the fabric into bits and you get a camo pattern naturally:

Or lay it out in layers:

I'm pretty sure that G-carta made some of this a few years ago and called it Cowcarta.

Back when we made wool vests and silk wildrags, we had lots of scraps.

A wildrag, ya didn't think cowboys wore scarves did you?

Anyhoo, there was a local guy that had made a pretty good press to make some decent home made handle material. We had him make some silkcarta and some woolcarta. Came out pretty good. He's passed away now so it was kinda short window.
