First off I am a huge fan of David Browns sheaths but I was wondering if a leather might not be better for a SAR Warden I have coming.
What do you think, anyone have both for their Wardens?
Thanks
If two options are not enough, let me give you a 3rd that you may not be aware of--leather with a kydex insert. You then get the benefits of leather without worrying that damp leather will cause a blade to start to rust. Just thought I'd throw that out to you.
One other thought...leather is quiet! I don't know if that matters in your case, but I've found kydex noisy to draw from and the sheath seems to resonate on all scrapes and bumps.
I like kydex for smaller knives up to 5" blades because of the mid to high ride and ability to swivel the draw. I like to wear mine horizontally around the small of my back. Plus they are simple to clean.
Bigger utility knives of course is more practical on a drop sheath more suitable of leather designs.
leather looks and feels classier! (go with chuddy!) got leather for my AD (chuddy) and i will not edc my folders! also kydex is more like concealment (i dont need drama). my AD is seen by all and looks like a class act! although if i was going tactical, kydex all the way! my 2 cents.
Yep, looks like a split vote...you're gonna need both.
I like leather better in most case's but the SAR needs kydex for sure, Black would look great with the SAR. I like the handle retention kydex for less blade wear...and the click. The blade retention one's are a bit smaller though.
If you're going to EDC the knife - kydex. For me a kydex sheath is more comfortable to carry as it has more carry options (IWB, Tek-lok). Leather is surely better looking though...
