Alright I've done a quick search on the topic and there doesen't seem to have been any discussion about Leather Patina.

I have an old,(that seem like a strange statement considerin' I'm talkin' 'bout a company that's only 15 years old) William Henry P-10 Lancet and like many gents knives from the early part of this century, this one came with a leather pouch to protect the pearl scales.

I noticed that since I carry it a lot the leather pouch has developed, for lack of a better term a patina, so I pulled out a few other older knives I had that have leather pouches and noticed that they too had developed a very dark discoloration.

Now my curiosity was peeked and I dragged out an old Edge Brand Throwin' knife with a stacked leather handle and saw how dark it was compared to and old SOG Attache I had.

Now what I was tryin' to figure out was if I shoud get a leather cleaner and clean up my leather pouch or like the blades on my older knives, leave the discoloration/patina alone.

Kinda like an old baseball glove I had as a kid, the WH knife pouch has developed character over the years and I kinda like the way it looks.

Who else has thought or has an opinion on this, I can't be the only person here that has ever wondered about this.

If ya have a thought on the topic or a picture with your patinaed(sp?) leather please post.

Either I posted this too early in the am, no one is interested in the topic or you guys don't like me anymore so I'll bump once and if no replies I'll stop wonderin' and lock the thread down to save it from commin' up again 4 years later. ;)

I like you.:) I would either get some leather cleaner, leather dye, or leave it be. I would probably use leather dye to get a uniform color. I did this with both of my Bianchi belts, double leather 1.75" wide, and worn every day for the past 10 years or more, these two belts are tough! The leather had gotten discolored in places so I used a dark brown leather dye and got the consistent color I was after. I let it dry for a couple days, then waxed it with Johnsons Paste Wax, the yellow/red can, and it came out looking great. Then I did the other one, and it also came out great.

Of course you could just wax it and see what happens. I have had good results using shoe polish, the solid wax-like type in the little round cans, followed up with wax.

Good luck on whichever way you decide to go.
