Just wondering how many of you carry your knife in a leather pouch, and the pros and cons of douing so. Thanks

I made three different size pocket clip pouches for all my slipjoints. The pouch clips on the inside of your pocket like a tactical clip knife.
Pros:
Knife stays relatively lint free.
Easy access like a knife with a clip. No digging for knife past keys and other crap.
Knife doesn't get torn apart by pocket crap.

Cons:
Knife gets used more often because of easy access thus requiring more frequent sharpening.:D

Woa, the leather pouch is surely very nicely made! If only I can also get such pouches for my knives...

The only leather pouches I have are the ones I made for the keyring carry of Karen and my Vic classics. It's easier to slide the knife out of the leather sheath to use without being attached to the keys. And being in a pouch, the keys don't beat it up.

As far as my other pocket knives go, I just drop them in my right front pocket. I don't carry anything else in that pocket exept a rolled up bandana and a stub of a pencil. But I supose if I had a really nice pocket knife like a damascus peanut, I could find myself getting protective of it.

Augustus88, very nice pouches! If you ever want to sell a few, I will be first in line:D

I have one leather pouch that I use for a couple of my higher-end slippies. Works okay, but tends to shift around in my pocket.

Augustus, them pouches really look good. how did you fix the clip to it?

I could imagine myself making one for my 125OT to go in my back pocket, but my other pocketknives just go in my right front pocket.

I do carry my LW Loveless in the pouch it came with, it is the only one that gets carried in a pouch. I do like the look of the pouches Augustus88 made however, very nicely done. I would point out that if you cannot find clips try you local gunshop (mom and pop type, not chain stores) often they will have a box of cheap used holsters including suede belt clip types you can buy for a couple of buck. A little cutting and sewing and you can easily make your own.

I did my first leather work for my case not that long ago. Its really thick but holds the knife nicely, I'm still trying to get it worked in. Another chance to use the same picture in 2 different threads.

One negative to using leather pouches is that it keeps a knife from acquiring that old pocket worn look that so many of us here love.

Yes but when your knives already have that pocketworn look they can protect them from further damage...lol

Some of my knives are a good bit older than I am and I am very close to the 1/2 century mark.

Nice looking pouches Augustus88. William Henry sells something similar on their website. I carry my customs in a pocket pouch (or purse as some have dubbed them)! I've been called allot of things but girlie is not one of them! ;)

I like pouches and consider them an enjoyable part of the whole package. Here are a couple of the different ones I have.....

This one has a clip, similar to the nice one shown by augustus88.....

I ordered one from Ron Ryder for my Cannittler- I don't want a knife that nice (and expensive) to get dinged up or filled with lint floating around my pocket.

AG Russell sells a nice looking pouch as well- I will probably order one of those in the future as well.

Thanks for the compliments guys. If get some free time soon I'll consider making a few more. I'll let you guys know if I get around to it. You're first in line Praxis.

stockman242,
The clip goes between the two back pieces of leather and is riveted in place. The double leather protects the knife from the clip and rivets. The smooth finish on the inside keeps the knife from getting scratched up.

Here are some that I use sometimes. One in there is not leather.

Pros: Leather is leather and tickles my primitive synapse. :)

Cons: Gotta keep an eye out for moisture if you store `em in the purse, er, uh, I mean sheath. ;)

I carry my Buck 303s in these. I call them "Angler" style pouches. Leather is Ron Ryder, Coated steel leader and 100lb test mono are my additions. I sent this idea to Ron and he is 'thinking' on it. Anyone can shorten or make their own coated steel leader, the mono is made by superglue a loop then wrap it with 10 lb clear mono like you would wrap a rod guide. Then super glue the whole wrap. I ended up using black nylon on the steel leader to get the correct length since I was not a leader fisherman and didn't want to buy the $ 25 crimper. Size the lengh to hang in you pocktet along you pants seam. Rons leather sheaths and straps are adjustable and do the same thing. The 'angler' straps are almost invisible especially the coated steel leader. I need to try one with brown tint mono. They are strong enough that I caught one on a flipper handle style door knob and tore the belt loop on an old but comfortable pair of jeans. 300$s
