I wanted to post a few pics of a leather Saya I've made for my Gyuto style knives for comments, critiques, and suggestions, if you will.
I see a lot of wood sayas, and not many leather so I wanted to get a feel for this style from those who would use this knife / saya.
All comments welcome. Thanks

Nice work, but I think we can call that one a sheath. "Muricanize it. :D

LOL. Well that little beauty look decidedly un-Japanese. ;) What are the specs on the knife?

So it is a Western Saya then? (ok, otherwise known as a sheath) ;) What can I say, I like working with leather.

This one is AEB-L at 62 hardness treated at Tru-Grit by Jeff.
The leather is a heavy grade with the same thickness used on the welt, so it does not readily bend along the length.
Handle wood is a nicely streaked Macassar ebony with nickel silver Corby fasteners.
Knife OAL 15 inches (381 mm)
Handle 5.37 inches (136.5 mm)
Blade length 9.75 inch (248 mm)
Blade height at heel 1.9 inches (48.5mm)
Spine .09 (2.28 mm) to .082 (2.2 mm) at 2 inches from tip. Tip tapers to edge from there.
Behind the edge @ .01

The blade / handle aspect is slightly non-traditional giving ample hand clearance.
There is also quite a bit of belly or rock in the blade geometry.

I would really like to hear feedback on those two design aspects. I have two more of these to finish from the current batch and then will be designing the next set.

I have had good luck with sheaths for my kitchen knives. Mine are stitched on both sides with a small welt. Yours looks nice. I will see if I can find some pictures.
