I just finished my first leather sheath, well ok its not my first. The first couple attempts landed a home in the trash! This is the first finished one that I feel ok about. I used 8 to 9oz leather, waxex thread, silver rivets and dipped in paraffin wax. I was a little iffy about the wax dip but wow does it stiffin up the leather!

I cant seem to get a good picture of it but here it is...

If you can see where the stitching stops at the top left of the sheath, I continued the welt that high so it catches on the little finger guard the 11/14 has. The knife feels like it clicks into the sheath and it holds it very nicely. This sheath is also meant for a knife that has a wrapped handle or scales.

Let me know what you think because tonight I am going to try and do this over, paying more attention to detail and adding a loop for fire steel and maybe a loop for me Fenix E01.

Thanks for looking.

Great sheath, sir. A lot nicer than the ones I have made.

I have thought about wax dipping mine as well.
Did you have any trouble with too much wax drying inside the sheath?

Also, if you don't mind me asking, where about in IL are you?

Hey Goose that means a lot coming from you! Any suggestions? I know the picture is bad.

Clich, thanks!

CBwoods, I am in the Gurnee, IL area. And I should have been clearer about the wax, I actually didnt dip it. I heated up the leather and then brushed the wax on, so not much made it in the inside of the sheath.

Yeah for sure, it's a really nice design!! I like how it's got a taco/pancake look going on. Very cool!!

Be careful though; it gets addicting :D

I have noticed there are a lot of IL people on this forum. Any good knife shows coming up?

Here is a picture that may show detail a little better. I will start the next one tonight and pay more attention to detail.

The backside isnt so pretty. I will upload a picture soon. The rivets were a last minute decision and I had to cut a little bit of leather off of the belt look portion to fit the top rivet. Other than that its ok. Will post a picture soon.

It looks good. Only think I can tell ya, since you've got the idea down, is to keep at it. You'll get better and better with each one. You should have seen my first sheaths that I seriously tried to make. Regardless you'll get better the more you do it. Just keep at it!!

Looks great, I've made a few for myself over the years and never come close to anything that looks this good, great job.

Thanks! I don't know if they could compete with yours anytime soon but ill try!

Don't try to compete with anyone except for yourself. Just try to make each and every next sheath better than your last.

Thanks man. This one might be coming your way soon. Does your 11/14 have wrap on it?

EDIT; this is not a sale, I am gifting it. He is my Guinea pig :-)

Yes, they both have micarta currently. I'll be waiting in the mailbox...
