Hello all,

I just picked up a GEC #23 LL w/ ebony, and I just love it. Although I don't mind it in my pocket most days, I like to carry my larger traditional folders in belt sheaths. Can any of you recommend a nice leather belt sheath that fits the 23 pattern (preferably black)? I've done some internet research, but I'd love to learn from your experiences. Whether production of custom, let me know what you have, think, like, and would avoid. I have a couple for my other folders, but some fresh perspectives are appreciated and welcomed.

Thanks

Right, liner lock, thanks for the clarification while I stepped away.

I've purchased 3 different folder sheaths from 3 different makers on ebay and have been pleased with all of them.

Yeah, the Bullard is on my radar, and I have the KSF pocket sheaths (love those, but looking for belt carry)... I've had good luck with sheaths by Carl Thomas, but have not come across Al Dodge--that will be my next stop. Any others? Keep'em comin...

All the above mentioned are fine sheaths, Al Dodge does nice work, fast and had made a few for me to give as gifts, he is a pleasure to do business with, one feature I really like about his sheaths is that they are lined.

Wow, that's beautiful work... I would like it lined as well. I tried his website a few hours ago and it was down; I'll try again tonight. Is he a regular here?

If you're interested in a horizontal carry, I think this would work for the #23.

It's from Hardman Custom Leather. It's designed for the 110/112, but it was very tight at first. When I tried to use it with my #73, I was afraid that it could be pushed in too deep, making it hard to get out. I don't think it would be a problem with the #23 since it's longer. I picked this one up off the auction site, but there were other colors and styles available also.

Al Dodge goes by Pocketknifesheaths here on BF.

I had this style in mind too--I have a custom 110 that I considered carrying this way; you are probably right, if it was tight for the 110 it would work for a #23. Since it's ebony, and I typically wear darker clothes, I'm looking for a black sheath, but I think that I've seen some in that color. I like horizontal carry a lot, especially for around town. It's more 'low profile' and less alarming/ conspicuous when mixing with city folk in their natural habitat. ;)

Also, thanks for the BF contact info for Al Dodge. I really would like to see some more of his work. ***Edit: just checked out one of his albums he has available here... I like the black ones!

The thing I like about horizontal sheaths is that they are more comfortable when sitting. I just looked it up and saw that there are both horizontal and vertical styles available in black. If you need a link, let me know and I'll send you a message.

I couldn't handle the weight of the 23 until I put it in a pocket slip. Once I did, it made all the difference in the world. It distributed the weight and made it very pleasant. :)

Derrick, that is exactly the way I have been carrying it--in one of your slips ;) I picked one up when I bought a #42 trapper from you (serial #13, cocobolo) a while back. Now I am waiting for my new container of Walker Wax! Clearly, Aias is just an alias... he's just my favorite Homeric hero.
