Do any of you know of a resource for leather sheaths that'll work for an RC3?

I'm sure many could help if they knew what an RC3 is.Most of us here are custom sheath makers and can make a sheath for any knife but we all don't study every companies knives.Dave:)

RC3---is that a car? plane? Boat? Axe, Hawk? It is just possible that some of us, who could help you, haven't the slightest idea what that designation has reference to. I assume that it is a knife but there are quite a few out there with all sorts of names and code designation. Could you be more specific?

Try JRE Industries (Goggle it)..I would bet they could be more helpful....

(pssst...an RC3 is a pretty popular RAT CUTLERY piece round these parts....pretty cool looking knife....Google is a wonderful thing...)

Well, that does help some, but when someone asks for a sheath, it would be nice to see a picture of the knife and elaborate on what they want.Oh, and I did Google RC3 after you suggested it and after 6 pages did not find one reference to Rat Cutlery.Dave:)

I'm pretty Goggle eyed right now, the 15 hours in the scooter does that to a person. is Goggle a new fangled search thing? :p

Honestly though, most of us dont have the time to look up every knife, its simply a common courtesy to post the specs on what your looking for, and at the very least a manufacturer name. It just makes it so much easier.

All these letters and numbers can be rather confusing to those of us that arent familiar with the "newest and bestest" tacticals on the market.

Its best not to assume everyone keeps up with the news.

Here's a sheath I made for my RC4:

Opps, sorry, guess I should have explained....
Safe to assume that the RC3 is a knife, right?? Well, then what you do is Goggle "RC3 knife"....hope this helps....;)

Well there you go Myright....seems like JerkeeJoe not only knows what an RC3 is...he does great looking work!

Thank you very much to those of you that offered help.

I guess I figured everyone knew and RC3 is a Rat Cutlery knife and also thought someone knew somewhere that produces them.

I got a couple good sites now. thanks.

Myright and rayban---gee, fellers, I hope I did not sound like an arse on my reply! The fact is that most of we sheathmakers are custom makers and generally do most of our work for the custom knifemaker rather than the production brands. After market sheaths are generally not our forte so , as a rule, we are not familiar with production names. If I receive 30 knives to sheath, I can expect to make at least 25 patterns----and I know neither the names of the knives nor an assigned number other than--- "hunter" "skinner" "Bowie" "fillet" and so on and on!!!!

It is difficult to picture the features of a knife even when described as a "Bowie" What is the blade length? thickness? Depth? Does it have a clip? What is the handle thickness? material? Guard? single guard? quillion? This is some of what one must know in order to give an answer. The maker's name is immaterial in the custom field other than to know where you are going to receive compensation. They seldom do exact replicas of any of their knives or they would not be "custom" work. In this field even the word "custom" is misused and "individualized" would probably be more correctly used! To give everyone a personal view on this... I thought Strider when I saw RC. The 3 on the end had me thinking that there was a smaller version out now.

Theres the Strider RC, and the Strider RC-C out right now, so I hope that gives a little perspective on the matter.

On another note here, most custom sheath makers are priced out of what one would want to spend on a knife like the RAT RC3, from me for expample you'd spend 65.00 for the sheath hand stitched, 50 for a machine stitched pouch. So we dont spend time studying the production lines for possible business. Theres just not the market there.

There is a ratio to where people will spend on the sheath for a particular knife, I found that a 300.00 piece will merit a custom sheath, too much below that and it gets too close to half the price of the knife and that seems to be the breaking point. I am willing to go up to half the cost of the blade for the sheath, but thats me, most will go 1/3 the cost. Its very difficult to make a sheath cheap enough to go there, I just dont have the rescorces to do that. High volume makers have the time and manpower to crank out large numbers so that is a way to get there, but again, they have to justify the cost of tooling up for a large run. If the market is there, good, if its dicey then not so good.

Hope this clarifies, probably muddies the waters a bit, but I have to say my piece. :)

Interesting topic Leatherman....... worthy of a thread all it's own....

Swivelknife and leatherman,

Great responses - thanks for posting. That makes perfect sense when worded like that.

That being said - you may see a PM from to see about a leather sheath for my RC3!

Thanks,
Anthony
