leather sheath for Seal Pup

New to the forum. I love my Seal Pup, but am looking for a leather sheath with plastic insert, and fastens over the top, like most folding sheaths, (not the little leather strip with snap design), and has simple slits in the back to slide on a belt.

I have thought this through and think it would be a great, protective and lightweight way to carry the Pup. The issue Kydex is okay, but quite noisy in brush, when wearing it on the belt, and frequently if moving, squatting, etc., the snaps pop off unexpectedly.
Thanks for any input on where to find such a beast.

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for your comments and inquiry. Kydex is certainly a great material. But there are those who just prefer natural materials or simpler designs. Since fixed blade knives pretty much need sheaths designed just for the knife, it is unlikely you'll find an aftermarket sheath already made that would meet your specifications. If you are looking to have a sheath made for your Pup, I'd suggest that you check out THIS RESOURCE.

If the sheath is carried properly, the snaps will not come undone as you have described.
  • Firstly, make sure that the snaps are completely snapped. Many of these sheaths have a "two stage" snap. When you first push on it, you will hear and feel a "snap" and it will give the impression that is is fully snapped. If you have one of these sheaths, by using pliers or by really, really firmly pressing the snaps together, a second stage will "kick in" making these snap nearly impossible to disengage. Personally, I can't disengage the snaps without prying them apart with a screwdriver.
  • Secondly, most fixed blades are designed to be worn with the addition of the a leg tie-down lanyard. This prevents the sheath from moving much while the user is aggressively active. This knife also comes with larger slats that will allow for nylon straps (not just nylon cord) to be more aggressively secured to the leg. This will make the sheath completely immobile.
The knife should be nearly completely quiet in the sheath because of the "rub strip." For those very few people who need the sheath silent from exterior substances, I've heard and seen people wrap their sheath in various types of tape (duct tape seems most popular).

Pete, if you feel there is something wrong with your sheath, please feel free to send it back and have me evaluate it. Warranty return instructions can be found HERE. If you have further questions or comments...I’m always here! :)
