Leather Sheath Issue

I recently ordered one of the waterproof leather sheaths for the RC-3 through Knives Ship Free.

When the sheath arrived the snap on the leather piece that holds the knife in place was laying in the bottom of the bag. Looks like it had been assembled correctly but must have come apart during shipping.

I see no need to go through the hassle of shipping it back to KSF for exchange although I did alert Wendy.

This looks like it should be an easy fix.

Anyone know where I could get a replacement snap and if there is a special tool required to install it? I might just search for a leather shop in the area.

Thanks

if you don't have a Tandy or other leatherwork supply shop close by, any large craft store should sell snaps and a snap setter, as do some camping/outdoor supply shops. (I have a Coleman brand "kit" with 3-4 each of several different sizes and a tool)

The hand setting tool for snaps don't give great results; your snap will come off, sooner than later. I suggest you go to a local cobbler/shoe-repairer; they'll install you a snap securely, with a press, and if they are like the ones around here, he'll charge you a buck or less :)

My local ACE hardware store has snap replacement kits for fixing the heavy duty snaps on canvas awnings (?spelling)

Personally, for a 50.00 sheath, I'd send it back and have them send me a new one. They do look like really nice sheaths, and I'm sure this was just a fluke.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have emailed a local cobbler and I'll see what they say.

MDSmith, I hear ya but I really don't want to pay for the return shipping ( I think the repair will be less) and I was hoping to put this sheath to use this weekend.

They should have checked the product before shipping it, I dont see how it would break free in transit.

They might cover shipping.

you dont ask you dont get!

I have emailed KSF about this issue. We'll see what they say and want to do.

Derrick and Wendy are good people. Not an excuse, but I know they just recently moved states. Maybe it slipped by them. They will make it right:thumbup:

Ended up fixing it myself for less than the cost to ship it back to KSF. Wendy was more than happy to do an exchange, but a snap kit from Ace Hardware was all I needed.
