Hi,
does anyone here make custom leather sheaths or know of someone who does? I have a great little knife that has a pocket sheath but I really would like a belt sheath for around-the-house carry.

Thanks,
Brett

There is an older thread in the Good Bad and Ugly that has some details
about veteran sheath makers that frequent this forum

See this Link

Near the end of the thread are several names and contact info for you to
check out, most have their work shown on various threads to view.

'RAYBAN' out of Michigan-custom, handmade bullet proof sheaths as plain and simple or as gorgeous as you want-all quite affordable.

Try and GOOGLE Rg leather-Rick Garcia. I'll try to get you a direct address soon.

He's done about ten sheaths for me this year, ranging from horizontal and angled quick draw belt sheaths for folders, vertical with and without flap/snap for folders and fixed blades and 1 very custom for a 40's era CASE folding bolo machete.
He usually uses wet leather to shrink it to 'your' knife's dimensions.
One other sheath he did for me was for a CASE 4-bladed X-Changer in basketweave. And his sheaths are also normally lined with doe skin, but you'd have to discuss that with him.

I am just going to put in a plug, for one of the most self-effacing gents you would care to meet - Gary Graley. Gary is an excellent sheath maker.

If it is for a folder I agree , go with Gary Graley. I still have G2 sheaths for knives I know longer own.

If Gary would agree to do fixed blades sheaths I would be happy , then I wouldnt have to make my own :)

Thanks A.P.F. and John W, appreciate that a lot, I've always figured it's better
to share the knowledge and promote the art of the leathersmith, some have the
passion and it certainly shows in their work.

And sorry John, you can handle the fixed blades...:)

No worries Brett, posted the link to provide you some fellows to pick from.

Hi G2,
Actually, the knifemaker who made the knife in question has commissioned some horizontal belt sheaths. VERY EXCITED I AM!!!

Take care,
Brett

Paul Long is quick, has great designs, makes a great sheath, has reasonable prices and can make an excellent fit from a pattern so you don't have to send the knife.

What more could you possibly ask for from a sheathmaker?
