I would almost bet my life that SOG would see at least a 15% to 20% sales increase if they supplied nice quality leather pouch sheaths with their knives.
Kydex from a production point makes sense due to it being cheap but for a customer satisfaction stand point it would make sense for SOG to set a new industry standard and offer some leather pouch sheaths with their knives. I know it would go great financially for SOG.

The knives that come with leather sheaths are very good sheaths. I don't know what you mean by "pouch sheaths". At least, I can't picture it.

By pouch sheath I mean the leather sheaths that have the pouch for a stone on the face of the sheath. For example the SOG DaggertII would look very nice with a natural leather sheath instead of the Kydex that comes with it. The leather sheaths that do come with some of the higher end bowies ect look real nice but others would benefit from the same quality sheaths.

I too like the looks and feel of the leather sheaths. I was lucky enough to purchase a Field Pup recently that came with a black leather sheath. It is an open sheath (no button strap just a bare sheath) and I couldn't have been happier.

At the time that I purchased it, I was unaware that it was a leather sheath, I assumed that it was one of those nylon pouches. So when I opened it I got a big (and happy) surprise when I saw that it was a leather sheath. Here is a link that I have about that thread, it's just me explaining what I did to the sheath and my excitement about the knife:

I don't think it would be possible for some of the knives to have the leather sheaths, such as the SEAL family. Those come with the kydex sheaths for a reason (the groove in the sheath is made for cutting without pulling out the knife). In the end, I do belive that the leather sheaths might be something desireable to have, but maybe budget wise, it is easier to simply sell the leather sheaths seperately as SOG already does.

Here is a link for that as well, simply click on the pictures and you'll see what you are talking about:

Hope this helps, J.

Okay, I see. Yes, examples are SOG Recon Bowie and Scuba/Demo come with a heavy duty sheath like you describe. The other knives within their discount line do come with the Kydex variety.
