leather stacked handle refinish

Does anyone have some good ideas about refinishing a leather stack handle? Its a buddy's knife so I want to do a good job on it. It is definately faded and warn.

I was thinking mink oil and a clean buffing job, but would be open to suggestions.

Search the sheaths and such or the traditionals sub forums, lots of info about bringing back old leather to usuable condition.

I think richardj is just finishing one up for a guy and had some pictures up about the process.
