Leather Stamping Help

Howdy There....!
I need some help...I am trying to learn how to stamp a basket weave pattern on a sheath and I can't seem to get the pattern correct. Does anyone out there have directions on how to do it correctly, any and all Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance....!

I know the problem you are having. I had it too! Draw a line on the leather and line up the stamp with the top edge on the line and give it a wack. Now move the stamp so the bottom edge is on the line
and line up the stamp to where the left edge of the stamp lines up vertically with the right edge of the vertical center portion of the previous stamp. It's like laying bricks but you leave a empty space between each brick horizontally.

The tandy leather website might have instructions with pictures.
 
Chuck Burrows' DVD shows how to do this but I'm at a loss for words to describe it... I lap the long single line completely, keeping the overweaves lined up. See what I mean? That doesn't make sense unless you're looking at it, and I can't draw. See if you can get the DVD from Center Cross Instructional Videos, that's the best ticket.
 
Use a red ball point pen to mark your leather. When you stain it the lines will vanish. Do all your lay out marking this way. Fred :cool:
