Is one that much better than the rest or do they all give the same results?
I`ve noticed oxide(?) powder, green, red, gold, yellow brick compounds. Is there a maker/color/element that I should pay attention to when I look for one?

I have preferred the flexcut gold polish compound over all the others. The wax can build up some on the leather over time but it just helps to make it last longer in my experience.

I think this works better than the oxide powders personally but get both and try them yourself. Some of my friends prefer the powder over the bar type compounds in solid form.

i've been using a white brick with a leather strop and it works great. i don't know how the green compares but the white is nice. i think it runs at 600-800 grit.

This would be my recommendation also. The white bars are as stated above 600 to 800 grit. Old leather belt, smooth side and the white bar. is an expensive way to maintain edge keeness. ;)

The .5 micron green honing compound (Lee Valley, Tools for Working Wood, etc), and diamond paste.
