I have a question I have a white and green compound for my strop. I have the rough side and a smooth side. Would it be best to use only one compound for both sides of the strop board? Or use the green on one side and white on the other? And which side to use the green and white on which holds me up.

Honestly, it would be better to throw out the crayons and get a couple bottles of decent diamond emulsion. Six micron and three micron, or three and one.

I've been putting this off. I need to bite the bullet on diamond spray if only for burr removal on my convexed edges.

I'm not a supersteel user so my white gold compound has served me well... but it's not really aggressive enough for burr removal imho.

Any suggestion on a decent "budget" diamond emulsion in do it all micron grit?

I've gotten good results with TechDiamondTools compounds, which are sold on Amazon. They come in many different grits. A 5 gram tube costs $12-15 and should be enough to load a decent-sized strop 4-5 times. Diamonds require reloading much less often than chromium oxide, because they don't break down. Once or twice a year is probably enough for most people.

Thank you :) Sounds pricey per load but if it lasts that long it will definitely be worth it.

I've always had better luck with a diamond paste, even in comparison to brands like Gunny Juice or DMT.
I didn't give much time to the sprays, just ditched them for what worked for me.

Interesting. What brand paste do you use? I'm keen to try out both.

I use and.love Don's products. 👍👍👍.......He works hard just like you buddy!!👌

Ive had great success with diamond paste and spray. I use a 3 micron paste followed by a .5 micron spray. They work very well. Deburrs also. My strops last a long time and stay effective

In all fairness, I never tried the crayon colored sticks before diamond so I can't compare

I use both Gunny Juice and Stroppy Stuff diamond spray emulsions and honestly, except for the price, I can't tell any difference. On my paddle strop, I have 4 micron on the fuzzy side and nothing on the slick side. I used to use the green crayon and got good results. Since I got the hang of stropping, I don't sharpen nearly as much.

I've used Chef Knives to Go house brand and Wicked Edge. Lasts a long time. I suspect any half-decent brand will work just because it might have more density.
I've considered just buying diamond powder and mixing my own. I'm just looking (not very hard) for a binder I like. Vaseline just seems too greasy for me and I don't like the wax in chrome-oxide sticks. Looking at prices on Amazon, it also seems reasonable in price.
