i have recently got into sharpening my own blades and would like to try my hand at stropping. i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what type of leather i should be using and wether i should be gluing it to something hard (like a piece of wood) or just freehand. thanks in advance for any input

thanks for referencing that my friend :)
DW; it's pretty easy to make your own strops. All hardware for it is pretty easily available. Depending on what kind of stropping compound you want and what kind of leather you use it is a pretty cheap hobby ;)

You are welcome.

I've permanently bookmarked that one, for just such occasions. The question (how to make/what to use for a strop?) comes up a lot, so I've gotten pretty quick at linking it in my replies. It's as good a reference as any I've seen. Nicely done.
