Wanted to know if it would be better to use the smooth or rough side of leather for diamond spray compound? I have multiple bottles from 3 micron down to .25 micron.

I use it on balsa but wanted to set myself up a couple leather stops, but wasn't sure if I should use the smooth or suede side.

I've used both. I prefer the smooth side. But that's for .25 micron spray. I use various pastes on balsa. White and green. If I don't ant a very polished edge I use my high grit whetstone's or DMT eef depending on what steel I'm working on. Or a paper wheel.

I use the smooth side with diamond paste. I would do the same if I used spray.

I use the smooth side of a 2x72 belt at no more than 20% speed and get very good results.

what's the spray liquid based on?

water, alcohol, oil, petroleum?

the latter two stay stuck in the leather, making it softer and softer (saturated/soaked) so that you must exchange the leather

Can use on either side (I prefer smooth/grain side). If you use on the flesh side I would recommend using lighter pressure.
