So I have priced out the tools I would need from Tandy.ca to begin working leather. There are also sets for sale on Amazon.ca with the same told for 1/3 the cost. Is there a reason not to order it from Amazon instead of buying from Tandy?

I have not personally tried the discount tools (probably chinese knockoffs) but good quality tooling is worth the extra money for clean crisp stamping. I live 40 miles from a Tandy store and I test any stamp I purchase because even there tools vary... I have a business account which saves a few dollars when I purchase from Tandy and the "GOLD/ELITE" accounts offer discounts also. I also purchase Barry King tools which are again better than Tandy and a few other specialty tool makers. What is the return policy on the discount tools and shipping cost if they are not up to your expectations... Buy once cry once... Happy Tooling!!

PS.....Buying tools never ends....Aggggghhhhh

What tools are you looking at acquiring ?
If your just starting out then you shouldn't need all the " bells and whistles " .
A few simple specialist tools are all that is needed , and you should be able to produce good quality products .
Most of the kits I've seen are of dubious quality and have a multitude of items included that will never get used .
I'm not suggesting the top of the line expensive tools , just find and be prepared to pay for some honest working tools , not some cheap junk that comes in a package deal .
Good luck with your new hobby , please post up some pics of your work .
Also can I just mention one other thing .

The leather you use is a hundred times more important than the tools that you use to cut , bend ,shape it with .
You get what you pay for with leather , be prepared to pay and get the best leather you can afford and find .
The leather influences the final outcome quality more than the tools .
