Who makes the best leather wallets? I'm talking about which ones last the longest, the quality of workmanship, etc. Right now I'm on my second Blackhawk cordura wallet. They last a long time...actually the only thing that goes is the velcro's ability to stay closed. I'm planning on getting a leather wallet soon. Thanks in advance.

Go to AG Russell's website and check out his Rayskin wallets. the are unbelievably tough, and without a doubt distinctive. I love mine. It looks like new after years of service. IF somehow I lost it today, I would order a new one ASAP. Nuf said!

Check out the bosca wallets at David Morgan. Absolutely gorgeous leather that lasts forever. Impeccable workmanship and quality. And very reasonably priced when compared against that overpriced, overhyped stuff from Coach.

who makes a couple nice, high quality leather wallets at the usual premium Filson price. But, not bad, considering the high quality of the leather and workmanship. ;)

I have a Bosca wallet that I got as a gift in 1989 and it's just now beginning to fall apart. So, I've begun shopping for a new wallet. The one I have folds over twice, so there are three layers. I guess it holds more than the ones that fold over once. The ones that fold over once are probably thinner in your pocket. Anyone have any thoughts about the advantages or disadvantages of each? Thanks. :)

Ditto on Bosca. I have an ostrich that I have had since 1989 and it still looks pretty good. I will get another when this one wears it.
Tuna out.

I've been using the all weather leather wallet for about 10 years now. I holds up better than any other wallet I've had. Very please with it. (I've never had a bosca).

I just bough myself the same Coach wallet.....I really love it, the attention to detail is amazing.....pricey though....I'll see how it holds up.

I have a leather wallet made by TUMI that I picked up at a travel shop in the mall. It's still going strong after 7 years...No cracks, rips or lost stitching..

I'm in the market for a new wallet myself.

One learning / problem:

I bought a very nice duofold Italian leather wallet in Florence (Firenze)... Basile was maker, made in Milano.

American currency is 2-5/8" tall X 6-1/16" long. Foreign currency goes from the tiny to the huge, relatively. So foreign wallets are made to hold foreign (European) paper currencies. That means they are often 3-1/2" or 3-3/4" tall by about 4-7/8" or wider when closed. It is this 3-1/2"+ height (tall enough for foreign bills) that caused me to abandon my Basile wallet. It was fine in jeans, but most of my khaki pants have slash or hidden type rear pockets. A 3-1/2" wallet is about 1/4" too tall for these pants pockets... I had to very frustratingly wrestle the wallet out of my back pocket... tilt one way, wrestle, get the edge out, tilt other way, wrestle, you get the idea. A significant annoyance, not to mention stupid looking to be wrestling around with your butt.

So if you wear pants that may have such rear pockets, make sure you find a wallet that is 3-1/4" in height.

Here is an example of a duofold wallet that is 3-1/2" tall (ack!):

I find that I often want to carry a very reduced sized wallet on weekends sometimes... usually when my NAA Guardian .32 is in front pocket and I'm going out to dinner. I have a small combo money clip/two slot wallet for this task ... money, driver's license, CCW, credit card.

Problem is, on several occasions, I've forgotten to transfer the contents back to my main wallet. Not too smart.

I have decided I want to try a wallet that has a removable "satellite" wallet that serves the money clip/2 slot wallet purpose, but that can be inserted back into the main wallet and used normally that way. I.e., no transference of stuff from one to the other, just slip the satellite back into main wallet.

If anyone has found a nice version of such a wallet, please drop me a line. Here is the nicest I've found so far, but it has the "over 3-1/2" height" problem again, by a big margin... 3-3/4" height:

I may have to go tri-fold, but that makes the wallet thicker-still to sit on (one butt cheek up in the air by 1" isn't good for the back).

And I haven't found a tri-fold with a satellite.

Duct Tape!

A coworker was given a duct tape wallet that his kids made for him 10 years ago. While that wallet hasn't lasted 10 years the kids just made a new one for him every fathers day until they got too big for something so "silly". He then started making them for himself and whenever one starts to wear out he just makes another. They fit exactly what he wants and make great conversation pieces.

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of Buxtons. I'm on my second in about 7 years, and it's still going pretty strong. It's a model I like, so I even bought a backup in the same style for when it finally kicks the bucket.

Where can I get duck tape in a tan alligator leather pattern?:D

I've been pretty happy with the "overpriced" Coach wallets that I replace about every ten years. I also carry about 25 different ID, insurance, credit cards etc.in them which doesn't do them any good but, hey I need that stuff. Try buying them online or at the various outlets for about 2/3 list price. Tri-folds tend to wear quicker if you pack them, and are too thick if you carry alot of cards or cash.
