Boots are the leather product in question but answers should work for all leather right? So I have a pair of boots leather obviously, is there anything I can do to the toe to make it more scratch and scuff resistant without putting that black Berliner like material on it? Like make it tougher might be the word?

To a point when spit shining and adding a number of layers of wax will provide a little bit more protection. It's not bullet proof, but it does add some protection. Personally I don't tend to do it anywhere near what I used to in the military anymore. So typically when using any kind of product on my shoes or boots I find less is more and using things in moderation is better for my leather footwear.

I think unfortunately if you don't like how leather scuffs or how it not as tuff as other materials then you need to place a synthetic material on top off it or go with some other material in the first place.

So generally depending on the leather some scuffs on leather such as Chromexcel can simply buffed out depending on how deep the scuff. Other scuffs may require a bit of cream using the same color already on the boot or shoe.

Okay thanks and yes I don't expect bulletproof but I just don't want them to wear out fast like when the top layer peels some due to scratches and such.

Understand, and unfortunately that happens with any leather if scratched hard enough. There are some leathers that handle this better than others but none of them are impenetrable.
