I have been using LM products for years and have been very happy with them. Does anyone know what their standard "stainless steel" blades are made of? They seem to be in the 440A or AUS6 range as they do get very sharp and hold a decent edge. They are also very easy to sharpen. If this has already been discussed at length, my apologies:o:).

One of the appealing things about multi-tools is that I never have to think about blade steel. May I suggest? :D

Seem like 420 to me, this is from there website.

"What kind of steel do you use?
Leatherman tools are made of 400-series stainless steel. Carbon content and heat-treated hardness vary depending on the specific implement."

I just bought a Leatherman Charge TTI today and it uses S30V for it's plain edge knife blade. That helped in my decision to go with this tool.:)

Not sure about standard steel type . I have used little Juice Pro and Wave without problems

But Charge Ti with 154CM sure was an emprovement. Razor edge in a few moments. Damn... I miss this one very much

I hope that new TTi will serve me well. I have it for two days now ;)

New to the forum and knives/multitools in general.

I ordered the Skeletool in hopes that the 154CM material would be adequate for long term daily use on fairly low tech sharpening devices and it's nice to hear that you favor it for these "average Joe" tools. My next knife material might be the 8Cr13MoV in the imported Byrd multitool http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=241 and am hoping to get by on sharpening both and every other (relatively) inexpensive device that we own with the $26 Edgemaker kit http://www.edgemaker.com/4_step.htm just ordered today (looked at the Edgepro Apex/Spyderco Sharpmaker combo; yet just didn't believe that I had the collection needed to support the purchase).

As the OP suggested; any suggestions as to the quality of these tools or more importantly materials, would be appreciated also.
(Btw, I hate to admit it...yet my favorite tools up to this point in time have been my two Lenox's with the gold and titanium edged blades...)

Tell you true...Those lenox Blades are pretty darn tough.
