Just thought I'd mention that Walmart here in Georgia has the Bast Multitool and a Leatherman knife (Not sure which one but just has a blade and zytel handle) for $30.

I bought a set for a gift. Overall a pretty good deal.

I've been carrying a Blast since Dec. '04, and it's my EDC on my belt. I haven't really had any hard use for it yet, but it's sure come in handy on several occasions. I have several Leathermans, and this one is my favorite. I had been thinking of getting a new Wave, but I've rethought it and feel the Blast is all I need to carry on the belt, and probably a better choice for my uses.

I also picked up one of the little Leatherman knives about a year ago, cost me about $25. The one with only the knife blade and the Leatherman version of the blade flipper. Not my favorite knife, but not bad. I have it in the living room for various dirty jobs I'd rather use it for than another knife.

Just picked up the last Blast/knife combo pack at my local Wal-mart. $15 - how could I pass it up? It must of been "lost" in the store for a while; if I remember correctly, these came out for Christmas ($50) and were put on sale shortly after. I guess I was just at the right place at the right time; it was misplaced with the fishing gear, hanging next to some .99 cent items.

The Blast is a great multitool. I used to carry the New Wave, but the Blast is a little more user friendly. Other then the one handed opening blades, it outperforms the Wave in many areas. I learned this the hard way when at work, myself and a co-worker were using our tools (I my Blast and he his Wave). A whole lot of function in a light, easy to carry package. I'm having a "Blast" with it.

IIRC that's the Leatherman 301. I bought mine for $12.50 on sale at Target standalone. They usually retail for $25. It's a pretty good knife and it sounds like you got a good price for the set.

I just bought a Blast at Target and I must agree, this is probably Leatherman's best all around tool.

I was carrying my PST, but I find the non-locking tools to be somewhat frustrating at times (the same with my older style Wave).

I considered the New Wave but I don't like the stubby bit drivers.

I just bought a Leatherman Blast for my son's birthday. One of the first things he did was pull out the reversible jeweler's screwdriver and reverse the bit. We put it back like it originally was, but now the screwdriver keeps falling out. Happens when he closes the knife or if he just shakes the knife a little.
Is this a common problem, or does our knife just have a weak spring?

We are going to return the current knife, but I am concerned about trying another blast...

return it. You just got a dud. Mine has been switched back and forth with use many many times, and it's still good. Sometimes, a dud just slips through the cracks. I would just return it and get another one.

I agree. I've used one for a year and have used the mini screwdriver several times (switching back and forth) without a problem.
