My Charge TTi gave up the ghost today. the pliers back spring area broke. I am sending it in tomorrow to their warranty dept. In the note section of the form I've requested if they can't repair that I'd pay the difference for a MUT as a replacement. Anyone have to send in a leatherman for repair? Whats your experience, and turn around time?

My son broke an Ontario Marine Raider years ago and they upgraded at my request =no charge.

I hope turn around is quick-I'll have to get my old leatherman Supertool out of my "wargear" and bring it back into full service in the meantime.

I've got a Surge in for repairs at the moment here in Australia .
It will be interesting to compare the warranty services of both countries .
I was told by a good source here that it may be 3-4 weeks .
Good luck .

My Charge Ti broke in EXACTLY the same place. I sent it in. A week later, I had a new one. Suffice it to say I am now more careful when using the pliers.

They will most likely replace it. Not sure if your TTi is the new or old model, but if its the old they will replace it with the same model if they still have them in the warehouse. If not they would replace it with the new model TTi.

My Core snapped of 3/4" off the pliers tip....took about 5 weeks for a new Core to arrive back to me.

I used the warranty twice for two different tools. They repaired my Supertool 200 and replaced my Core with a new Supertool 300. Turn around time on both occasions was less than 2 weeks

The only "problem" I've ever had with the warranty was when one of my Dads PSTs was replaced with something else "comparable" like a kick or some such. Not sure what my dad is carrying now, but he's owned two tools for a while since he uses them so often, and breaks them often enough that he needs a backup while one is away. The main reason he keeps going back is the warranty. No one can make a tool my dad can't break. and its not that he abuses tools, he just has a way of finding things limits.

The problem with most Multi tools is knowing when the job at hand is beyond the scope of strength of the tool. I believe most MT's are light to medium duty being constructed of 420hc stainless, they are not tool steel. I wrestle with the fine line between stressing my MT on a certain job, or going to my tool box to get the full size designated tool. I have broke two MT pliers heads because I was too lazy to walk back to the shop and get the right tool. Luckily, those broken MT's were Leatherman, and replaced by warranty within a week.

All multi-tool makers, Victorinox included, use castings instead of forged steel for plier heads, good enough for "normal" use but definitely not up to regular heavy duty. Usually cast metal is good enough for most jobs, but when they break with moderate use, the likely cause is a poor batch from the casting process. That seems to happen more often with Leatherman products than Vic. Maybe it just seems that way because so many more are sold here than all other makes combined, but I have seen samples of broken Swisstool pliers, too.

I received my Surge back today . Well I should actually say I received a brand new Surge , they just replaced it .
That means a 11 day turn around which I think is very good .
Top service , great product .

Awesome! I guess they still have the older style Surge in stock since thats the one they sent you. Leathermans customer service is great!

Received my Charge TTI today. Letter enclosed says they replaced the tool with a refurbished one. It looks and feels brand new. Fast turn around.

I broke the pliers on my leather man wave. I emailed them sent it in and about 14 days later had a new wave.they said it was refurbished but it feels and moves like a new one.

On 2/14/2014 I mailed my Leatherman Core Black Oxide (7/07) priority insured to Leatherman Warranty. It had 2-3mm of pliers play (suspect wearing down of zytel inserts). After two weeks I got it back with no note, but it appeared to have been worked on. The pliers were a little better, still about 2mm play. I could tell they had taken it apart by the amount of black oxide removed from various parts. I called them and asked why the problem wasn't fully repaired, they said, "We don't have the parts anymore for the Core". They offered me a Supertool 300 Black in exchange if I returned my Core again. I mentioned that I spent $8.10 priority insured the first time, now they want me to do it again?? They offered me a prepaid UPS envelope and sent it USPS to my home. After a week of not hearing anything I called 3/7/2014, my tool was sitting in an inbox waiting for a warranty representative to followup. They assured me that they would work on the matter soon. On 3/12/2014, I receive a brand new Leatherman Supertool 300 Black Oxide (w/ date code 9/12) in the mail. A personal letter apologizing for the time it took to resolve the matter and a new (NOT REFURBISHED)tool replacement and Nylon Sheath. This tool was as tight as any multitool could be, zero play, all implements were of absolute perfect fit and finish. SOMEONE HAD MADE SURE I GOT A GREAT TOOL AT THE LEATHERMAN WARRANTY DEPARTMENT!!! Even though it took a month I give Leatherman a score of 9/10 stars. That is pretty high in my book!!!!

Yup, Leatherman is one of the best in the business when it comes to warranties. Glad to hear your happy with how everything turned out.

In Australia, I sent my Charge TTi in to get the blade replaced - wore it out after an accident. I intended to pay for the blade but they did it for free. However, when it came back, they had replaced my S30V blade with a 154CM blade. I emailed them and the person said that was how the Charge is now. So I sent them a link to the page where it quite clearly shows the S30V blade. Cost a bit to send it back and forth, but they eventually sent back a Charge TTi with the right blade, albeit it with annoying imperfections on the edge of the blade.

A few months ago, the large bit driver snapped while fixing up a bed. Still usable, but annoying. They replaced the whole MT within a few days - the new blade is nice too :)
