Note: I posted this elsewhere, too.

I bought a Leatherman C305 locking knife/multitool today for $9.20 on clearance from a Lowe's home center store in Illinois.

Good score! The Lowe's here don't have anything much good anymore. I went to one here today (Baton Rouge) and all they had was a couple Victorinox, a bunch of razor knives and some very cheap looking Trappers. The sales guy said that they don't carry Case or Leatherman at all anymore....

Nice score.

Revolvergeek- stay away from their Appalachian Trail branded junk. I decided to try one of their Gerber knock-off's, and the lock and pivot broke after 9 days of ownership, and I carried it for maybe 3 days total. POS- you get what you pay for. I maybe used the knife 12 times- for VERY light stuff.

In my area they sell Sog tools and knives, Several Case models, a number of Gerbers in addition to the Appalachian Trail junk. They have Leatherman's too.

I just left my local Lowe's store with two Leatherman h502's for the low price of $8.00 each.

What's strange is they had the c305 for $49.95.

From what I could tell they are in the process of eliminating most or all of the quality knives they carry(Leatherman, Vic, SOG, Case) and replacing it with cheap junk.

Dang, I was just in Lowes yesterday. Guess I'll make a return trip for a look-see.

Interesting. The h502's were "sale priced" at about $34 in the local Lowe's versus $9.20 for the c305. The store is now out of c305s.

Didn't think about it until I came home; but someone may have inadvertently screwed things up in their computer system.

Then again, they often run different items on sale/clearance in different regions of the country.

Wouldn't make much sense to have a big sale on snow shovels and snow blowers in SC even during the winter; when we only have a couple of inches of snow every year.:D

I caved and bought a Powerlock at Lowe's yesterday. It was full price and they had just gotten in more of them. They didn't have yellow tags on any of their knives or tools, except a few bucks off the 502's and the red cellidor Vic Recruit was a dollar off. I don't think they are going to stop carrying quality tools any time soon.

Maybe the regional sale is like Wal-Mart clearing out guns- maybe the item wasn't profitable in that area.
