I've just got a quick question about the Leatherman Charge hard wire cutters. Does anyone know if these things will be able to cut through something as thick as a chainlink fence? I've been very curious about this for a while now, but I'm too afraid to try because I don't want to damage anything. So, if anyone has any previous experience with this, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.

I've never tried, but I wouldn't suggest it. The wire cutters on Leatherman pliers are more for copper electrical wire or thinner baling wire. :)

I have cut through chain link fence with my (origional) Wave. It might have been a bit thinner than the stadard chain link fence I think though. no damage done to the tool, just took lots of force.

The Charge has an even bigger hard wire cutter so I emagine it would be possible. If I were you, I would try and report back to us. :)

On more than one ocassion, I used my LM Wave and SuperTool to routinely cut thru chainlink fencing and even barbs on galvanized barbed wire. You'll be exerting more force though, and The SuperTool really put the hurt on my hand. =\

Since the charge has improved plier strength (and I presume stronger wire cutter) and good ergonomics, you should be able to cut more easily than on the old Wave. =)
