I got a Leatherman Charge Ti about five months ago. The blades have seen very light use (much less than the pliers and screwdriver) but recently I have had a slight problem with it. The metal rod that keeps the serrated blade locked closed while using the pliers does not retract into the handle completely, so when I want to open the serrated blade I need to push it out and then open it. Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this other than filing a couple millimeters off? Or would that be the easiest fix?

Thanks.

Well, the first thing you shold do is call Leatherman's Customer Service and see what they say. They'll probably offer to fix or replace it for you.

However, if you want to fix it yourself, you might try filing it down. I don't see how the blades present a danger when the tool is open, unless you try really hard to open them; that little lock seems to be a solution in search of a problem, and was probably dreamt up by their Legal department.

Send it back to leatherman. I broke off one of the locks on my Blast and mailed it to the factory. In a week I got it back with a new lock and a new knife blade (I guess they thought it needed a new blade?!) and they paid the return postage. Can't beat the kind of customer service.
