Leatherman Charge TTi Locking mechanism

I am looking for my first multi-tool. After researching the forums a bit, I believe I would like to have the options that the Leatherman Charge TTI offers. However, I have read in a few reviews that the Charge's locking mechanism is not fantastic:

On the TTI this was the case with the plain edged knife. The liner locks on the saw and file were ok, not perfect, but they came about halfway. The lock on the serrated knife is just plain crap. I find this hard to explain (hopefully the photos I also post will help explain what I’m saying) but it doesn’t even fully enter the space beneath the tool, so I believe there is a real danger of the lock slipping out and the knife folding.

Now the reason why this angers me so much is because it just shows real poor QC at LM. Every review of the TTi I have read has said this, I hoped it was to do with specific TTIs that people had received whereas most were fine, maybe that is still the case, but I have one which has the same problem. Surely this is something which should be very carefully checked? If someone was to cut themselves due to the liner lock slipping, couldn’t they sue LM?

I am extremely inexperienced with MT's. And obviously new to the forums. I am curious to hear any updated feedback on this issue...or if users of this tool would consider it a non-issue. Thank you for all of the wonderful information thus far.

Been carrying and using mine almost daily at work for close to a year. The lockup on these blades improves with use and I have never cut myself due to any lock failure. Just don't use the knife in such a way that lock failure will cut you. Everyone must keep in mind that a lock is a safety feature, not a guarantee of safety. Anyone who EDC's a slip-joint knows how not to get cut. Safe handling is the best safety that you have.

The lock on the serrated knife is just plain crap.

i see absolutely no reason why you would be putting the kind of forces that cause lock failure whilst using the serrated knife.

i've got the wave and couldnt be happier with it

My first tti didn't have any issues with the locks, the file and saw were about 80% over but the blades both only went 50% leaving plenty of room for wear. The plier head on that tool broke though and I sent it in for warranty.

Just got the new one in the mail, and while it had other issues that are cause for it to be returned as well, this tool's locks on the blades and tools all slide straight over to the scales, the only tool without vertical play is the plain edge knife.

That said I'm very pleased with how leatherman is handling this, they really do take care of you.

Also I've looked at and handled three other tti's and none have had the lock issues. This example has an older date of manufacture, my original was newer as well as the others I looked at, perhaps they fixed things? When was yours made out of curiosity?

I have NEVER had any problems dealing with Leatherman on any tool problem. They will take care of you better than your Momma! I have carried one as long as I could remember.

Do not worry about anything.
