Unacceptable quality control by Leatherman. The poor grind on this S30V is sacreligious!

Does it cut? Probably! The free plastic knife that I get with my carryout also cuts!

The TTI's msrp is over $150. The primary blade is hyped up (and priced accordingly) for the quality of the steel. It makes no sense to me that QC overlooks the grind. The bevel on the opposite side of what i pictured is about 2.5x in width compared to what you see.

When I but a flagship American made model MT from a reputable maker, I ask for more than "does it cut"!

It is packaged and scheduled for return pickup tomorrow.

Yeah, I would send it back too! I am alittle picky on items even if they dont cost me half that! :D

I guess some people will take whatever someone sells them regardless of quality. Does a cheapo frost cutlery knife cut? What about United? Sure they do. When you pay more money you expect more. Fit and finish is part of what determines price.

I agree about fit/finish and its correlation w cost. I am dismissing this as an exception and not a rule of LM's grind. I even thought about reprofiling the blade myself. But it irked me too much to think that even my least expensive Spyderco or BM blades are way better than this.

So..the search continues for my first MT. I am leaning towards the Victorinox Spirit.

So one slightly heavy grind gets through QC. Nothing left to do but burn the place down and walk away.

Making stuff is expensive. over the last 20 years LM has lowered some of its fit and finish standards to keep price points in line with customer demands. Yes victorinox has better fit and finish, but at a cost. Comparing the cost of a multitool to a folding knife is unreasonable. a multi is going to cost more to get the same product, thats just the way it is.

If the grind on your knife is not to your liking, I'm sure LM will take care of it. They are a great company, and have maintained a reputation for service by working hard at it. But can we all just put out the torches and put the pitchforks back in the barn. it'll be okay.

My wave I just got for christmas also has a ridiculous grind, extremely high on one side and low on the other. Cuts, but now that you guys are talking of it I might send it in because I can't imagine trying to sharpen this.

That's a weird statement a bout spyderco. They're sorta known for having the sharpest edges out of the box.
I definitely would dismiss LM just because of one bad grind. No I wouldn't accept it but I would just get a replacement. I have never been happier with a multi-tool as I am with my TTI. Locking blades, replaceable driver bits, useable file, pocket clip, micro driver, etc... I've had mine for about 2 years now and I use it almost every day.

I recently got a Charge TTi...Mine is just fine. I think you should consider a replacement. Its an awesome MT.

I purchased it from Amazon and was not offered a replacement option. I will contact them but it may be a matter of repurchasing w another vendor.

I think I will try another example of the TTi and hope to not have the same issue.

Thanks all for your thoughts. -jack

I've had 3 TTi's and none had this problem. I would get another one and see how it goes.

Mine was a little worse than that , but a few sharpening´s later its all even.

1234,,,:)

I agree a little bit with the wise guys who say "does it cut", but when you drop $112 on a dang multitool, you have every right expect better than what you got. Fortunately, if this is the worse thing you have to deal with this week, you are doing pretty good. Rock on.

My TTi had a slightly "off" grind as well... I reprofiled it and it works just fine. It did come hairsplitting sharp though, and I'm not real keen on S30V either. My father has carried various models of Leatherman tools for over 20 years, and has yet to have one fail him.

I have a charge and I really like it. The blade grinds aren't all that great but it is a multitool and not a fine knife so I don't expect perfect blade grinds.
