I bought a new Leatherman charge tti today and the handle scales are loose near the torch screws. I can physically move them with my fingers. Is this normal? I would attempt to tighten the screws myself, but they seem to be a torx with a post in the middle

No, that's not normal. Those torx screws shouldn't move, even when you are unfolding the pliers or using the tools. If you have the proper tools, hopefully that will fix it.

Once, a few years ago, I tried to purchase a replacement saw blade for a Wave, as I had broken mine. I was told they couldn't sell me replacement parts, because the screws holding the tool together had to be appropriately torked and glued. I sent the tool in for repair, and all it cost me was shipping one way. I'm guessing, if your new tool came with loose screws, they would make it right for you at no expense to you. T-A
