Hey guys,

I've started carrying my Leatherman Wave (1998 style) again, but I'm really getting tired of its tool accessibility issues, like clumping and impossible nail nicks and grasp points on screwdrivers. I'm liking the Charge TTi even though it's on the expensive side, but can someone who has one tell me if they've fixed the tool clumping problems? And are the handles any more ergonomic when using the knife blades?

Thanks

I have one that I use for kind of a mini toolbox. It's a great tool, the best multitool out there in my opinion, but the handle is not as comfortable as a folder by a long shot. I don't use it for whittling or building log cabins or anything but the handle is comfortable enough for use and a lot more comfortable than my SOG multi or the old school leathermans.

I don't know if they've improved the issues you describe since you bought yours in 98 but I've used the tool quite a bit in some pretty nasty conditions and haven't found clumping or tool useability to be a problem. In terms of convenience I think the charge is the best... you have 2 blades , a saw, and a file (all of which lock) that you can use without opening the pliers. It's small and light enough to carry if you intend to use it and I've found it plenty rust resistant for field use in NC.

I upgraded from the wave, to the charge ti. I have no regrets. Only the tool I pull out, comes out. The big plus is that they all lock. I can`t stand it when the screwdriver folds up as you turn it. Buy it, You won`t be sorry.

As the others have said, the tools don't clump (or clump as bad) as they did on the old style of Wave. I haven't handled the Charge at all, but neither the newer wave nor my Surge have any clumping issues.

Hi,

Just pulled the Charge TTI out of its holster. Tried all the tools and none clumped. I really like the Charge series - have 13 of them including a Multitool.org one in my collection.

The Wave is a good tool, but I really prefer the Charge FWIW.

Cheers - Joe

I also have a TTI and a new wave and a charge. they all use the same style lock and no clumping issues at all. in fact they get smoother with use so that is a bonus. the one hand opening is a huge plus. i wish other multitool makers would utilize this feature. I find the leatherman tools to be one of the more comfortable multis to use for extended periods I use my multitools at work alot, probably too much but what can I say they are handy little buggers. so I say go for it I think you will like it.
