Anyone here use the Leatherman Crunch? My unit is going to order multitools for everyone and we're given the choice, Crunch or Wave. I know the Crunch is a vice grip, but I haven't read anything about it here on the forums. If you have one, can you let me know any pros or cons on it? I gotta give my choice by Tuesday. I've used multitools before but never in vice grip form.

Thanks
mike

I've owned a Crunch for about seven years or so, and it's still going strong.

Pros: Well made and strong with good vice grip. It's done every job I've demanded of it, and done them well.

Cons: The recess for the vice grips precludes the use of that side of the tool for other items, hence the Crunch (or my model at least, perhaps they've changed it) has far fewer other tools - a slightly serrated blade, a Phillips screw head, a file, and two picks. That's it.

All in all it's a good, strong tool but unless you'll be using the vice grips more than anything else I'd get a SOG Powerlock or Leatherman Supertool or Core.

You may be able to find a review of the Wave and the Crunch at Multitool.org

Given the choice of Crunch or Wave, I would choose the wave. The vice grips are nice but I found the Wave more versitile.

You have to keep in mind though, the Crunch can give you a portable clamp. That is sweet. What will be the the demigraphic of this tool?

You can also swap the bit driver, can opener with the nice long Philips, small flat diver, from the kick into the Wave with little modifications. Just something to keep in mind.

Wave, way more versatile....You get more blades and you get scissors (which im pretty sure the crunch doesnt have). Unless you are going to have to really torque on something I believe the wave will fill most applications best!

Thanks all. Now they're saying either the Crunch or the Sog Powerassist or something, though I take it the powerassist is the same idea as the Wave. I'll go with the Wave/Powerassist choice.

Don't forget, the Power Assist may have exterior blades, but those blades are the only tools contained in that handle - that leaves only 1 handle remaining to house other tools.

I own both tools. The crunch is great if you need a vicegrips regularly and other tools not so much. Unless I know I will need vicegrips I rarely carry my crunch over the wave because the wave offers more versatility.

The Crunch is a great little pair of visegrips, but it's not a tool that can be deployed easily with one hand. Just something else to keep in mind.
