Is there a tool or a socket or something that can be used on the pivot screws to aid in taking a Leatherman apart for cleaning.

In the past I have used two pair of needlenose pliers, and while this will work .... it leaves a lot to be desired........... :thumbdn:

Thankx in advance .......... :)

I believe it is called a security Torx bit and I have heard mention of size 10 and size 15. Not sure which is right.

Thank's Lurker..... but that's not it.

I have the Security Torx bits... they are just a regular Torx with a hole in the middle.

What I need. or think I need ... would have to fit over the pivot screw/bolt/nut ....... whatever it is called.

Hi teacher,

The fastener is called a "knurled screw" and there are a few different ways to remove them.

Link: This way allows you to access both the plier pivot screws and the implement screws.

Link; This way only allows you to access the implement end screws but is much easier to use.

Good luck!

Thank you spoonrobot ..... that should cover it........... :)
Where are you located in Alabama ? I am in Gadsden.

I tend to bounce around between the Auburn/Opelika area and the Dothan area, depending on where work is. :)

10-4 ........ I bounce between Gadsden and Orange Beach for the same reason. The price of diesel is killing me though.......... :D
Thankx again for the info.........

Lurker....
It appears you are correct........ the newer Leatherman's do indeed use Torx & Security Torx pivot screws.

:o:o:o I kinda forgot to say I was referring to the PST & PSTII......... my bad :foot: .........
and, thank you for the info you provided...... it made me go to the Leatherman site.

Since I had not really kept up with the NEW THINGS they had come out with.......... I was amased.

I see a purchase or two....... in the very near future......:D

Thankx again,
