Dunno if you guys have seen these yet? They recently appeared on the Leatherman site:

We were discussing the Freestyle on another forum recently. It seems like a Skeletool, without the removable bit driver. Some sort of fixed combo-screwdriver in its place. Also the pocket clip is missing from that second picture. (empty screw hole)

Hmmm. So do we ordinary mortals consider this a stripped-down version of an already stripped-down version of the plier-based multi? hehe :D

Yeah, that tool doesn't make any sense at all to me. Part of the allure of the skeletool is that it is a very pocketable tool with its clip. Also, if you are going to strip down the screwdrivers, you almost have to make it a bit type set up where one side is flat and the other philips. I don't see what leatherman is trying to do here. At 5oz, the Skeletool is about as light as you can go and still have a tool capable of doing heavy lifting.

Also, is anyone really thinking about using the clip/bottle opener for a primary carrying method? I could see it on a backpack...maybe. However, if it has a pocket clip, I feel a lot better knowing where it is at all times, and that it is at a second's reach. Really, Leatherman could keep that feature if the tool incorporated some other form of bottle opening device as far as I'm concerned. A tool must be able to pop off a beer bottle cap for me to consider it an EDC:p:D

if I get one (or skeletool), I'm thinking of lopping off the carabiner so the driver is usable while folded.
