I posed this question in another thread but does anyone know when the Leatherman Freestyle is supposed to be released? It's an even lighter version of the Skeletool with a zytel handle insert and a single screwdriver as opposed to the bit system. I would think with such similar components to the original Skeletool it would be available soon.
I have a backpacking trip coming up in early May and would like to bring one with. Anyone hear anything?:confused:
 
I haven't heard a thing about it other than the mentioning on this board. Besides the zytel, I have no idea how a bitless screwdriver is going to cut down on THAT much weight. It still looks pretty stubby, but you don't get the benefit of being about to change out the bit.

I haven't seen any mention of it on LM site, so if it is anything like the Skeletools, then it might be a ways off. Who knows:confused:
 
I noticed that on the regular Skeletools have 4 holes in the blade (one thumbhole and 3 holes for weight reduction). The interesting thing is that the Freestyle, which is be promoted as even more lightweight, only has two holes on the blade.
Just an observation...
 
The "sell sheet" for the Freestyle says it weighs 4.8 oz (136g). There's not a big difference in weight between the Skeletools and Freestyle--just 0.2 oz (6g).

I'm not sure when the Freestyle will be available in stores. The release of the Skeletool was delayed.

The Freestyle will be less expensive than the standard version of the Skeletool.

According to THIS GUY the Freestyle has been delayed until later in 2008. :(

Bummer.
