I think some else mentioned in the Surge thread that their sheath was nothing to write home about. Actually, that their sheath was nothin more than a nylon pouch with no pockets for any of the extra bits, dual carry, etc. I got the same sheath with my Surge that I picked up from Target yesterday. Last night, I wrote Leatherman about it. I told them that it appeared that I had received a Core sheath as the standard sheath on their site for the Surge was a lot different. Anyway, long story short, they are sending me a sheath for free. They said there was a mix up with a shipment or something and a few slipped thru the cracks.
So if any of you received a very disappointing pouch with your Surge, I would contact Leatherman right away. I got a very apologetic reply with no questions asked.
Just another reason why Leatherman gets most of my bucks.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like Leatherman's doing well in the P.R. department. How do you like your Surge? I bought a couple last week and I love 'em!

Sometimes I carry more than one Leathermen, but always with different capabilities, for example Supertool plus Micra. May I ask, why two Surges? Normally when someone buys several of the same I assume it is to distribute them, but your post suggests maybe you use both.

Just curious how people use their tools.

Yea, that is the sheath I got. I stuck that one in my drawer and used the nylon sheath that is said to be for the new Wave, but I got mine with the toolkit for my Kick. Fits perfect and has room for the saw/file.

I keep one with me at work in my tool bag and I leave one at home as a "spare" or in case I happen to leave my bag at work. :)

I recieved the right sheath... but the horizontal carry straps broke in 3 days flat.... I'm so disappointed by the nylon sheath :( Does anyone know if the leather one is any better?

I can only speak for myself but I've been using my old style Wave leather sheath for several years now and I've never had any problems with it. One difference between a leather sheath and a nylon sheath is that leather sheaths seem to only have a vertical carry option, whereas it seems that only the nylon sheaths are the ones available with both horizontal and vertical carry modes.

The exact same thing just happened to me yesterday. Thanks for the tip - I'll contact Leatherman.

Seems like I'm getting a replacement nylon sheath for the one that fell apart on me :) Go leatherman customer service!

I emailed LM about getting the wrong sheath, and they said they'd send the correct one ASAP. I requested the leather one.

How long did it take to get the replacement sheath after you contacted them?

I got my sheath on wednesday. I think the turn around time was about 10 days. Not bad for sending me something for free. The sheath is MUCH better than the one that came with it. I think i like this nylon one better than the leather one that came with my new wave. It has all the pockets, but feels like it'll withstand the tool being drawn and sheathed about a dozen times a day. the leather one started to fall apart pretty quickly. I hate the ripping sound of velcro, but i figure i can remove the velcro and put a snap on it without too much trouble. All in all, Leatherman has proved to be a great company that takes care of its customers. If i could get a corkscrew for the surge, I don't think i'd need another tool again.
Notice i said NEED...not buy;)

I got my correct, replacement Surge sheath recently. They sent me the leather one, which seems pretty solid. Time will tell.
