I know they are stainless, but can it handle a day at sea without rusting? I wonder just how stainless leatherman steel is? anyone ever experiance any rusting?

I dont know from personal experience, but from others here I've learned if you thoroughly wash and lube your knife, tool, etc you should have no problems. Just like after cleaning game.

I've never taken any of my Juices to sea, but I have taken my Original PST and Wave out fishing. The first time, with the PST, I wasn't too diligent abotu rinsing it out with fresh water when it got salt water on it, and it got some whitiesh corrosion (not the usual reddish rust), which polished out later on land. I've learned a bit since then!!

Again, rinse it with a little fresh water if it gets salty, don't let the salt water dry on it. A wipe-down with Break-Free or similar, in the morning before you go out and after you get back in, and you should be fine.

Actually, I just had another thought... while stainless steel is easy to maintain, the Juice has aluminum scales. Seawater can do nasty things to aluminum in short order, if there are any scratches in the anodizing particularly. So you might want to be extra careful with your care.

I used to Windsurf with a small Leatherman in the ocean all the time. Did it for years. I didn't take very good care of it. It rusted at the pivot and in the jaws of the pliers and in some other spots. The file and handle also got very crusty. I oiled it up and worked in the joints and got the tool usable again. I think if I had rinsed the tool and oiled it after each use, the tool would have been fine.

I went for a picnic on the beach and took my Flair.I rinsed it in the sea after eating some crab claws (stupid me) and when I returned home the jaws had started rusting. :grumpy:
