it says it comes with a saw(the purple one). is this a better choice than the sak rucksack?
I had a chance to see one without the saw and the blade looked pretty good. I was impressed on the compactness and the steel "looked good" but I haven't had a chance to use one.

anyone had any experience?

thanks

chris

From what I've seen the SAK saw will win everytime. That doesn't say
that the Leatherman saw isn't any good , it's just a notch down from the
SAK saw. It will , however, get the job done. How often would the saw
be used anyway?? Kind of a non issue really. Just having a saw would be
the important point to me.

I plan to buy a Kf4 Yellow Juice as the folk's at Leatherman tell me it's the
same tool set up as my old pal supertool. That would be nice to have when
I can't carry a bigger tool. Anyway, I carry a SAK with saw now to have one
available when my super tool gets left home.

Good luck on your search ,mate.

tight wad, do you build survival shelters, bow and drills, traps?

if so the saw is a real issue. if you just do urban survival and little wilderness stuff than it is a non issue.

but I think it is important to learn to craft these things from raw materials just to know how.

I have used my sak and leatherman more in last 4 months than the last 10 years I have been into good knives.

so sak and leatherman have a real place in my kits!

thanks

Chris, No I don't build much of anything anymore. I used to camp,
tramp & explore in the woods alot. During that time I always carried
a Large SAK w / saw. Now mind you I'm not a Mountain Man I just
used to enjoy the woods. Can't do it anymore.

As to how "build" some of the trap's, Drills, etc. there are some really good
books that show how and with a bit of practice you can teach yourself how.

As a recommendation carry both the large SAK & Leatherman because a little
redundancy in the woods is a good thing in case you lose / break one.

Good luck, mate.

thanks tightwad,

yeah, I think a little redundancy goes a long way too!

when I lived in the city I hated sak's I thought what a waste. now I am using them like crazy. I still carry a leatherman supertool and spydie delica and sometimes endura. I have kind of added without subtracting.

thouhg I got rid of all my tactical g-10 folders. trades:D

Carrying an SAK and a multitool is a good idea. When I worked outside carried a Climber and a Buck 110. I'd use the Climber for about 90% of the time and keep a sharp edge on the Buck. When I replaced the Buck with one of the old Gerber tools, I mostly used the Gerber for only the pliers and the phillips. IMO the saw on the old Supertool is as good as a SAK, plus it locks. It's real good for reaching down in the hole to trim that PVC sprinkler pipe.

as for the Juice, I may get one for travelling. They look smaller than the regular Leathermans. It can replace the Climber I carry in a waist pack.

I just got a xe6 Pro, and I have to chime in. With regards to the saw, I was quite disappointed at just how thin and flimsy the thing is. Also, the components don't seem to always snap open and shut with a positive detent. I got this (pretty much) brand new from ebay.

The Juice line is nowhere near as good as the Wave and its ilk. Its fine for pottering around but they can be fiddly when you want to put stuff back. Honestly, if you are looking for a good tool that wont break the bank the Surge is a much better deal.
