Leatherman Knives opinions? favorite?

I will go ahead and giving you a warning about looking for leatherman multi-tools online, make sure if you decide you want to go to their website type in leatherman.com and don't accidently type in leathermen.com. Trust me no one wants to end up on leathermen.com :barf:.

Looking at the Leatherman knives. Which do you like? Are they all made in USA?

I had a leatherman knife (not the multitool with pliers) and torqued the screwdriver right in two when using it. It was made from die-cast metal that looked like hardened foamcore inside. Thoroughly unimpressive, although they fixed it under warranty with no hassles.

I have a Surge multitool that is great, but I wouldn't buy one of their knives again.

They are assembled in the USA of (mostly) US and (some) foreign components. Their products were marked as US made until a couple years ago when the Cali AG went after them on a technical violation of Cali consumer protection laws .

I used to EDC a 301. I like it. The edge held up well. The flipper feature was not all I expected it to be, but with practice, I was able to work it well. The serration pattern has turned out to be one of my favorites. The blade speckled easily, though. I have since sold that knife.

The PST was my first good multi-tool. It is still one of my favorites. I had 2 of them at one point. One with an erronious date stamp that I put away and another that I bought at a pawn shop as a user. 10 years after it was made, my user failed due to the pivot design. They sent me one of their current multi-tools to replace it. I believe that eventually that one will likely fail the same way- I like my Sog more. I also think the quality on current Leatherman Sheaths is poor. I have (and have given) several Micras as gifts. Those have all been very well recieved. When I ordered slip sheathers from Leatherman for them, one was defective. When I contacted their CS, they more than made up for it.

wow i can see that it is cast metal but it has a 25 year warranty.

The screwdriver blade broke like a matchstick. It wasn't that I got a bad one - it was a poor design with cheaply made materials. The fact that they are willing to replace it with another as poorly made doesn't seem material to me. You can still hurt yourself when it snaps off.

Again, the multitools seem okay, but he knives are junk.

The screwdriver that broke may have just been bad heat treat. I had an Interarms Virginia Dragoon some years ago that broke the second time I fired it. The hammer shattered like a piece of glass. I picked up the pieces and returned it to Interarms (which was in nearby Alexandria, Va.) and they replaced it with one that worked fine. I also know of two police officers who got S&W 681 .357 mag revolvers in western Kentucky, each with a soft barrel. They had accuracy problems and noticed that the front sights were wearing off from holster wear. The barrels were replaced and the guns were fine.

I just bought a Leatherman Charge Ti and a Gerber Method, and the latter was only so-so. The blades were too short, the grip too wide and the scissors were a joke. The Charge Ti, on the other hand, had an S30V knife blade that locked and could be opened with one hand. The case was quality leather. The case for the Gerber was junk—the kind of case you'd get with a tool at your local hardware store $6 bin. So take a tip and get the Leatherman. It's a hundred bucks, but it's likely you'll never have to buy another one unless you get drunk and trade it.

Leatherman multi tools are great. Their knives suck. I used to sell them. Straight from the factory the handles, blades, and clips were all very loose. They seemed very poorly made.
