I always carry a Leatherman Micra along with an EDC knife. The Micra gets used more than the knife and more often than not it's the scissors that is being used. Whenever I open it up and use the scissors I get upset with the handles because they are so slippery when trying to cut with it. Has anyone ever cut/filed some grooves into the handle to improve the grip? Or if anyone has found another solution I would appreciate hearing how you solved it. Or is just me?

Thanks.

No, it isn't just you. Whatever the Micra's other charms, finger friendliness is not one of them. However, for close to a decade I have been able to put up with the sharp and slippery handles because there is really nothing else on the market that size which is as versatile. Vic doesn't offer any competitor with scissors as large, and the Leatherman Squirt S4, although it has comparable scissors and all the implements, can't be "stretched" like the Micra to add extra reach. That leaves the Micra in a field of one, so I continue to carry it.

About the uncomfortable handles, I have a workaround. Instead of modding the tool, I prefer to mod my attitude. Whenever a job is completed, I forget about the minor irritations and take satisfaction in that I had a tool with me when it was needed.

Problems don't always require a technical solution :D .

Thanks, I feel better now. You probably hit the nail on the head with your closing thought as I am very impatient. I'll just have to follow your advice and live with it.

Like you I've had one for years and just never found a suitable replacement, I'll just have to quit my complaining and live with it as it is.

I have never had a problem with the micra's handles; however, I could see how they could be slippery and not readily manipulated. One solution might be to use deck tape cut to fit the handles. Deck tape has a sandpaper like surface on one side and is often used by skateboarders to add grip to their skateboards. Aside from skateboard shops I am not entirely sure where to get deck tape.

I've also had the micra for close to a decade. To improve or maybe "add" grip is a better word, I've attached a ring and a paracord lanyard to one of the ends just to increase my grip on at least that one end of the multi-tool.

I hope this helps a bit.

Come to think of it, a lanyard of sorts is attached to my Micra, too. Actually, it is a micro flashlight, but it helps the grip when I use the tool. I think of it as a fob. OTOH, the Micra is a fob when I'm using the flashlight.

egrips are rubbery grippy little adhesive stickers for attaching to phones, ipods etc. I think that the little ones would work great on the micra handles...
