I realize the MUT is primarily directed to shooters, but do you think it would be a good choice as a general use multi or are there better choices?

just looked at the MUT. to me it seems like the HEST of the leatherman lineup. So, I'd say it depends on what you mean by general use.

I'd still say you can get a good tool cheaper than the MUT. The wave comes to mind. Or SOG powerlock, etc...

Check out the Leatherman Super Tool 300? I like the forged screwdrivers instead of the removable bits because they are a hassle exchanging and there is always the possibility that I could lose the bits.

Same plier jaws/wire cutter as the MUT, knife blade is on the inside, but I always have a knfie on me anyways.

I wan't a MUT , that said ; a Wave or Surge is a more cost effective bet .

HEST? or is this a typo?

I "think" he's referring to Hostile Environment Survival Tool, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for the replies guys. Pretty much my thinking.

I may still have to get one, just to add to my small MT collection.
Plus the photos supratentorial posted in another thread here make it look really interesting,

I think the tool looks great and is probably pretty cool, but there are probably going to be several tools on it that I would simply never use. To me that doesn't make sense. I use and abuse my Victorinox Swisstool every day and at some point all of those tools get put to work. I would say to read about the tools on the MUT and determine whether it's for you by whether or not the tools would actually be used.

That's my take, although I'd still love to handle one...

Thanks for the input, and I can't argue with your logic. Ya'll confirmed what I thought that a Leatherman or Swisstool would be more appropriate. But then it is kinda of "cool"....sooooo :D

I've also wondered about MTs that have EOD tools, SOG comes to mind. Are these really used by EOD guys? I'm totally ignorant on that subject, but I would have thought an EOD guy (of gal ;)) would have specialized tools for that rather hazardous job. Or are they just for the occassional bomb you find in your backyard and decide to defuse?

I want the MUT but I have reasons for it, if you need just a general MT than a ST 300 would be great! $59.00 bucks against about $129.00 for the MUT.

The MUT does look cool. I certainly want one:) I'm a shooter, but its a little too pricey for my needs right now.

To be brutally honest, and once again I'm a shooter, I think the MUT is geared toward the AR crowd simply because they tend to be a little more add-on/gadget/hey that's cool! buyers. I can see LM saying, "Well, they buy different uppers, lowers, magazines, barrels, rails, rail accessories...why can't we get in on that?"

...but I still want one;)

Yeah, I agree Jake. And I still want one ;) But it would have to drop below $80 which it probably never will.
