I'd like to hear your opinion.

In you opinion who do you think is better leatherman or victorinox
And why do you think it's better.

For me it leatherman.

Why? Because they just seem tougher I've never broke a leatherman "I've broke 3 victorinox tools"
Every Leatherman I've had always Handel everything I throw at it.

Best of all it American made!

Hope this we'll be fun.

While I love my Leatherman tools I have to say I think Victorinox is far superior. When I say far superior I mean in fit and finish. I have owned countless tools and knives from both manufacturers and quality control is never a issue with Victorinox. I cannot say the same for Leatherman. I have seen many quality control issues from Leatherman products.

I would love to know what Victorinox tools you have broken and how they broke.

The only multitool I ever broke was a Leatherman Core. I bought a Swiss Tool while the Core was away being warrantied...

Super tinker: broke a driver off tightening up a screw.
A friends Victorinox SwissTool Spirit I think: broke the pliers by prying out a 16 penny nail.
Again a friends Victorinox SwissTool: broke the pliers by cutting some barb wire fence "same friends tool to lol"

Comparing my Leatherman Surge to my wife's SwissTool Spirit, I much prefer the fit, finish, and feel of the SwissTool. The Leatherman feels clunky and there's definitely more play in the movement than the Victorinox, which has a much more solid, finely-tuned feel. Neither has failed me yet, but I suspect the steel in the Victorinox is superior. Don't ask me how I know, but it's just an overwhelming feeling I have about the quality difference.

Interesting. Thanks.

I too would vote for the fit and finish for Victorinox products. And of the dozen I owed in both Victorinox and Leatherman plies-based MT(and dozens more I handled), most of the Victorinox pliers-based tool seems to have better rust resistance to my Leatherman tools.

Sorry to hear about your friends' MTs, I wonder how well will a same sized Leatherman tool fair in those tests.

Victorinox is in my opinion a better product- I have never broken one. Leatherman is great, but they do break.

I don't "thank", I know that Vic tools are by far superior in fit, finish, performance, and overall utility then any other brand of multi-tool; and as far as it being made outside of the USA... Switzerland....really?

My Camper wore out to the point where it got stuck closed. Maybe that's my fault, but I have tried cleaning and lubing it. I never let the pocket lint build up for too long.

My Charge is still going strong.

Being honest, comparing a Camper with a Charge is like the comparison of apples with potatoes. Two very different animals.

Comparing a Charge and a Vic Swisstool Spirit would be ok.

I carried a LM Wave and a Swisstool Spirit in change for years. Both hold up nice until nowadays. But when looking closer, the pliers on the Wave show a little play while the Vic is still bombproof.

I tend to like the Vic more, also because of using the metric systems in their tools while LM is an america company.

Both make nice tools in everyway.

I have a hard time saying one or the other as I carry both most days or I alternate. I love the smaller foot print of Saks and I think some of the tools are better designed than on leatherman. The pliers on thleatherman tools are better and they are easier to access. For me they are complimentary. I use the swistool as my big MT but i'm rambling I think for the most part they are two different animals.

After a fair amount of experience with both, I agree about Victorinox fit and finish, but in regards to performance and overall utility, I lean Leatherman. For my doings, Leatherman pliers and screwdrivers perform better. That was a notion I got working with them, but also from side by side comparisons that confirmed my impressions. Other implements vary with each make, some superior in one category or another, but all are perfectly useable. Truth of the matter is if one or the other multi-tool were not available, I would be perfectly happy with the other, but a bit more with Leatherman. :)

I've been heavily debating trying out a Vic Spirit X.

Been carrying Leatherman Waves since their first iteration. I'm now on my 3rd after giving one away, and the 2nd one being stolen.

The Vics seem like they do have a much better fit and finish, and look a lot "sleeker", but the utility of the wave wit the interchangeable bits, and the front access, one hand open blades, have somewhat tilted the scales to the Leatherman for my current use. I can't give a truly accurate opinion, however, as I've not handled or owned a Victorinox.

All that said, I have broken two Waves. The first was sent in for warrant repair after the hard wire cutters deformed and locked together from cutting some heavy wire.
The 2nd time, I snapped about 3/8" off of one side of the needle nose plier when prying with it. I just ground the other side even with an angle grinder and kept on working.
The newest wave had just come out at the time, so I figured it was time for an upgrade anyhow.

I use a leatherman wave I've cut the same barb wire no problems.
I've cut and pry 16 penny nails no problems.
I do have a lil bit of play in the pliers but not enough to really say any thing

My dad and brothers got a leatherman supertool 300 and they do the same thing with no problems.

My brothers supertool did break a driver once prying some 2x4 Apart but we ship it in and got it back with in a week.

I think any multitool will break if you're trying to extend it beyond it's capabilities. That being said, I'd have to choose the Swisstool X I think it is, the one with the scissors, and the Spirit. Very nice fit & finish on both. And I like the way the tools operate. The ergo's on the Spirit are a bit better in my hand, but the Swisstool feels a little tougher to me if that makes sense. But I don't try to work them beyond what they're for, having broke a few in past years of different brands being too lazy to go get the proper tool.

The only new Leatherman I've purchased recently was the Charge TTi. That's a pretty nice tool as well. Just wanted to check out their flag ship model.

Not that there is anything particularly wrong with Vic's blade steel, but I think a Spirit in Ti with a CPM154 or S30 blade would be pretty cool. But likely have a cool price sticker too however.

Honestly, it all depends on what your needs and wants are. After owning dozens of Leatherman and Victorinox multitools, I believe the SwissTool/Spirit multitools are superior to Leatherman multitools. I say this because they have much better fit and finish and Victorinox incorporates more functions per implement compared to Leatherman. Not to mention Victorinox tools are an extremely rust resistant, they all have an awl, the screwdrivers are long so you can reach recessed screws, and they all open on the outside. Leatherman tools are also excellent though. If I had to choose between a Wave and Spirit, I would choose the Spirit every time.

I have owned both leatherman wave and new wave as well as the Vic swisstool rs. I chose the swisstool most days now I really like it now that I carry it in this sheath I made after watching mythbusters Adam Savage build one out of aluminum, I had copper and whipped this up.

Rather crude but it does the job.
