Hello All,

I just came back from a Target store in Milford, Massachusetts. They had the Leatherman Pulse on sale for $25 instead of the usual $50. I don't know whether this sale was for all Targets or just that store. If you need a Pulse, it might be worth checking out.

Yup its a great deal on a soon to be discountiniued underated multitool!
In fact its an excellent deal!

Why would any retailer sell at below cost ?

I reckon most things have a mark up of ATLEAST 100% is if not a lot more !

Cost price I reckon would be about $20 so they are just getting rid of old stock and not losing money....

i didnt know they were going to discotinue the pulse what about the supertool 200 ?

Hi Dunc ,

That one is still going on according to the scuttlebut .

thanks Doug i guess it would make sense to keep making the super tool 200 as even with the the new charge and other models it will still remain the biggest tool they offer (with the exception of the crunch ).

Well Leatherman products are soooo competitve and popular that they do not afford the retailer huge margins such as 100%.
Most retailers will mark up standard fishing and cutlery by cost x 1.65 to get retail.
Hunting supplies such as guns and ammo will bring much lower profits than that even.
Companies such as Costco,Wallmart and Target work on much lower margins than the average retailer.
Believe me that is well below cost...........I know for a fact.
Yes the Pulse,Sideclip,PST,PST II,Old Wave and Mini Tool are all history at the end of the year.
Super Tool 200 will still be offered....it is one of Leatherman's best sellers.
Many retailers end up selling below cost to dump slow or discontinued products.

Hi,

I just checked another Target in our area. They also had the Pulse at half price and the PST at half price ($35 reduced to $17.48). Perhaps the new Blast family is closer than we thought.

Hi Joe ,

I believe that Leatherman has a history of trying to get thier new products out in time for the Christmas season . Capitolize on one of the better selling seasons of the year .

If for some reason my e - mails are not reaching you try me at ;

Just so you know, the crunch is smaller than the supertool. The locking pliers are so well done, it sure seems bigger though, but with many fewer tools...

I have seen a few web sites that are listing the Blast/Fuse/Kick as shipping in November.

I just got back from Target with the last two Pulse tools they had (one for me, one for my father-in-law's birthday). The Micra with the colored handles were also half price, $9.98. The plain SS Micras were still full price.

I just came from Target also. They were out of the Pulse  I did see the Micra with blue handles on clearance. I walked out of there with a Vic Soldier ($9.88!!!) and Swisscard Lite however.

:p JoeBW
Thanks for the heads up. Got a Pulse and a Micra at the sale prices. Great deal. Didn't need another multi-tool but at the price couldn't pass it up.

Target stores around Charlotte, NC area have Pulse and PST half price, and they still have some in stock. Checked two different stores.

I can sorta answer this. I spent 4 years in retail.

You have something that's not selling or that you are going to quit selling. You need to put something on your shelf that will sell. By selling it for something, rather than throw it away for nothing, you decrease your losses.

The general rule of thumb for us was 10% a week: Mark it down 10% of the orginal price a week every week until it's all gone. If it gets down to zero, might as well throw it away to make space.

Also, we would occassionally sell 2x4s and concrete at a loss. The reasoning was that if you're buying these items, you're usually going to buy something else with it.

Maybe some Big Shot from the Target chain reading this could just box up all those old , dusty, obsolete, forgotten, outdated, soon-to-be-discontinued Leathermans and donate them to Bladeforums for a Giveaway to all us wonderful forumites who regularly pad their pockets at Target for our daily neccessities (such as Leathermans etc...) :D :D
