Im a first aider at work in a glass factory so as you can imagine i see my fair share of cuts ,
on tuesday a attended to a guy who had been pushing a heavy barrow of glass when his hand slipped and cut his index finger near the knuckle down to the bone.when i got to him he was holding his hand in a downward position and was bleeding heavily. I immediately applied pressure and elevation and after a short while the bleeding stopped and i bandeged him up , now at work we wear wrist protectors which are made out of woven kevlar , they cover from your wrist to your elbow and are a bit like a sock with no foot and due to the amount of blood his right one was soaked so we decided to cut it off before taking him to hospital .I tried useing the scissors in the first aid box but they just wouldnt cut the kevlar so it was out with the supertool 200 and with the serated sheeps foot blade i was able to cut through the wrist protector , i had to use a bit of pressure due to the fact kevlar is so strong but it made short work of it .I think the sheeps foot blade is great for the fact that you can safely cut away clothing due to its rounded tip .when i was using it there was a comment of 'bet you didnt find that in the first aid kit ' but it really done a good job . Hope i havent bored you too much with this story but it would be great if anyone else has a similar story .
oh and the guy had seven stiches and it should all heal up ok .
