Leatherman rattle when closed?

I just got a used LM ST-300 and it has a fair bit of rattle when fully closed. I'm assuming it wasn't like this when new, as I've gone through several other LMs that didn't have this issue. I'm wondering if this is something that LM could fix for me, or if I should just live with it.

Have a happy Easter.

I think it is very normal for it to have rattle, just the way they are made, also the more it is used the more rattle it will have, as long as all the tools are there and they are not to loose it should be fine.

Uh-uh. Mine is tight and right from day one, and others I have come across here and there are likewise. Regardless of how well the tool works, obviously the rattle bothers the OP or he would not have posted about it. I am all but certain that for the price of postage to them, Leatherman warranty would make things right.

I have had a few leatherman's over the years and there is no rattle when closed at all. I would just send it back to them for a tune up.

My original SuperTool and old Model Wave rattle a quite a bit in the sheath while walking. I sent the ST back after 9 yrs. to have them tighten it up, but it still rattles. I've had both since new, they didn't start out that way. While studying the newer sheaths I had a thought that one purpose for the elastic sides was to stop the rattle of the tools. There are other reasons I'm sure, but it seems to make sense.

MY ST300 doesn't rattle at all but my surge rattles really bad and I really dislike it for that very reason. :grumpy:

I remember reported complaints about Surge rattles, but that was supposed to have been fixed by a modification at some point. Mine was a late model that didn't rattle at all. What year was yours made?

If you can miss your multitool for a while, send it to Leatherman and maybe they can tighten it up.

Yeah, I think I'm going to contact Leatherman and send it in. I'll let you know what happens.
