In another thread, I ranted that there were no OEM or third party replacement blades for Leatherman multitools made from high-alloy steels or exotic materials.

It is old news, but I have found that Leatherman has a Wave variant that has a Magnicut main blade, in the Wave Alpha. . . .good to know.

And while perusing e-Bay for Christmas ideas, I ran across several offerings for replacement blades for multiple Leatherman multitools made in Damascus! So I bought two. One for our son, and one for me.My gift to him is the blade itself and his gift to me will be doing the swap.

Our grandson, just turned 16, will get a plane-Jane Wave Plus. Upgrades may come later on along with occasional gas money to keep him apprecistive of us older folks.

If they wrinkle or break we will be able to re-swap the OEM blades. Maybe Leatherman will come up with a line of user changeable blades in a selection high alloy steels and profiles. I suggest that they do this.

At this time, I just cannot convince myself to spend the money on a replacement for my EDC. The magnicut blade on the Alpha has a profile that I cannot see myself using much. It is a great steel, but all I do with I the blades now is open packages and other light cutting. It is not like I am going to field dress three Elk in a day.

Notionally, I might be willing to forgo the saw blade for the scissors, but I really like having both the plain edge knife and the sarastd blade. . . .so no alpha for me.
